- This event has passed.
July 5 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Ron (2E0RWK) has kindly plotted (a Map) against the rest of the Club.
A challenge has been set, can we find a series of locations given clues via Radio?
There is no necessity to transmit on the Radio to take part.
(GB3KY reception is required). Perhaps this is an opportunity to involve others in the household.
The Challenge will be held 15:00 (local) Sunday 5th of July.
If you would like to take part could you drop me an email or let me know on one of the Nets before the event. This will help us to prepare for the challenge.
The attached guide from Ron indicates what you will need to take part.
“This will be a fun competition involving a bit of map reading, some thinking through of clues and perhaps a little research online to find out where certain things are. For the map reading experts among you this may be easy but to others, maybe not so much. But no matter what your skill level it’s a bit of fun, so do take part.
2E0RWK (Ron) will complete a 16 mile journey, subject to the successful performance of his motor vehicle, stopping at regular intervals to give you clues via GB3KY to indicate where he is. All you have to do is figure out where he has stopped and monitor his progress on the map. Points are scored for each correct location identification, with a maximum of 30 points possible.
To take part, this is what you will need:
A 1:25,000 OS Explorer map 250 North Coast West
Basic map reading skills to identify Roads, rivers, churches etc
Recognition of Spot Heights and map symbols
Access to the internet – you may want to look something up?
You may already have Ordnance Survey mapping for the area either in hard copy format or on your computer. If you need to buy one, the hard copy map is £8.99 and should be available at any branch of Smiths and at most outdoor shops.
The online mapping is £23.99 per annum and may be worth considering as it allows you to use maps online or to print off sections to suit your needs. The online mapping covers all of the UK, is always up to date and there is no limited to the number of maps you can print off or download. Your subscription will also allow you to use the OS app on your mobile phone. https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/
