Thorpe Camp Hamfest

And the day dawned bright and fair as the intrepid Bacon Brigade sallied forth into the dark lands of Lincolnshire. Two cars traversed the A17, having met at the Arches of Gold and consumed hot beverages.

Plans were made, beans were confiscated by the Deputy Chairman, and onwards went the crew.

The rally was at Thorpe Camp, and in the past was known as the Dambuster’s Rally.  Whilst the initial price of £4 per person seemed a little steep, it became apparent that this was for the entire experience. The rally itself was reasonable, with an overriding theme of coax and winches.  Lots of coax.

The food supplies were excellent and will be a high scorer for this rally. Bacon baps were consumed by all, except Ian, who had a sausage bap, and the Deputy Chairman, who pushed the boat out and had mushrooms on hers. The tea was excellent.

It is important at this juncture to show a picture of Ian sitting sensibly on a chair, followed by The Chair That Ian Fell On Due To Uneven Ground. He was quickly restored to vertical by stalwart members of the Brigade, however there are no photos as the person who takes them was not going to lose the teas that had just been made. Priorities people!

This leaves us with the dubious category of Things We Wouldn’t Expect to See at a Radio Rally.

There have been strong entrants this year so far, and a decision  was made to exclude the militaria of Thorpe Camp, and focus purely on items on rally tables or floors.

Our entrants from Thorpe Campe rally are an electric guitar (of which there were two, on different stalls) and the brass newspaper rack with embossed scene.

After looking around the rally we had a good explore of the camp museum and memorial, and it was lovely.
